Prayer Guide

Out of all the ways one could offer to support us, prayer is the greatest support we can get. We are most encouraged when someone tells us they are praying for us, our families, for the church plant, or for Wilmington. This prayer guide is a simple way for our prayer supporters to keep us before the throne of grace.  We’ve organized it by category for ease of use and have included some Scriptures to help you pray.

We’ll try to keep it updated as requests are answered and new ones arise!

Mission statement: Grace City Church exists to make much of Jesus as we gather in community and love our neighbors.

Pray that we would make much of Jesus through:

  • Being committed to gospel-centered doctrine and expositional preaching
  • Creating a culture of dynamic, Kingdom-advancing prayer
  • Earnestly desiring the spiritual gifts
  • The individual and corporate pursuit of holiness
  • Sacrificial living and giving
  • Evangelism and engaging the brokenness of our city
   Scriptures to Pray

Spiritual Warfare ::
“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11
“…On this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Matthew 16:18

Preaching ::
“I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. Do the work of an evangelist.” 2 Tim. 4:1-2, 5

Practicing the Gifts ::
“Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” Romans 12:6-8

Evangelism ::
“And I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ.” Philemon 6

Racial Divide ::
“For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.”  Ephesians 2:14-16

Orphan Care ::
“Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” James 1:27

Lost Sheep in Wilmington ::
“And this is the will of him who sent me, that I should lose nothing of all that he has given me, but raise it up on the last day. For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:39-40

“Lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Heb. 12:1-2

Ethnic & Class Diversity ::

Sacrificial in Giving ::
“But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you see that you excel in the grace of giving as well.”  2 Corinthians 8:7

Older Couples ::
“Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.  Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good.” Titus 2:2-3

Unity within, Favor without ::
“And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts,  praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.”  Acts 2:46-47

To those who have committed to pray with us and for us, we thank God always for you with joy “because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now!” (Phil. 1:3-5)

Please continue to pray for Grace City Church, “that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ…that [we] may make it clear” (Col. 4:3-4), and that many people in Wilmington would come to know, love, and follow Jesus.
